Pallet Treatment
Heat treatment for pallets is a process designed to eliminate pests and pathogens that may
be present in the wood used for making pallets. This treatment is a critical part of
meeting the International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures No. 15 (ISPM 15),
which aims to prevent the global spread of wood-borne pests through international trade.
Uniyam Company offers ISPM 15 heat treatment for pallets,
ensuring they meet international standards for exporting wood packaging materials.
The heat treatment process involves heating the wood to a minimum core temperature
of 56°C (132.8°F) for at least 30 minutes, which
is effective in eliminating pests and diseases that could be present in the wood.
After this process, the treated pallets are marked with a certified ISPM 15 stamp
indicating compliance with the standard.
Key Aspects of Heat Treatment for Pallets
1. Process:
-
Heating: The wood is heated to a minimum core temperature
of 56°C (132.8°F) for at least 30 minutes. This temperature is sufficient
to kill most insects and larvae inside the wood.
-
Duration: The heating process must maintain the specified
temperature uniformly throughout the wood for the entire 30 minutes to
ensure effectiveness
2. Certification:
-
Marking: After the heat treatment, the wood is stamped with a
specific mark that includes the
IPPC (International Plant Protection Convention) logo, the country code,
the producer/treatment facility code, and the treatment code
(HT for heat treatment)
-
Compliance: This stamp indicates that the wood meets ISPM 15 standards and
is approved for international shipping. It is a universally
recognized mark that facilitates the movement of
wood packaging materials across borders without
quarantine issues.
3. Benefits:
-
Pest Elimination: Heat treatment effectively eradicates pests and
pathogens, making the pallets safe for international transport.
-
Regulatory Compliance: Meeting ISPM 15 standards prevents delays,
additional costs, and potential rejections at customs.
-
Environmental Responsibility: Unlike chemical fumigation,
heat treatment is an environmentally friendly option as
it does not involve harmful chemicals.
4. Applications:
-
Global Trade: Essential for businesses that export goods, ensuring
that their wooden packaging materials comply with international regulations.
-
Durability: Treated pallets are less prone to damage from insects,
enhancing their durability and lifespan.
